Blood Flow Chokes
Loss of consciousness can happen within 10 seconds, brain damage after 1 minute, and death after 4 minutes.
➤ carotid artery compressed
➤ blood flow restricted (different than an airway choke)
➤ vessel receptors trigger false high blood pressure regulatory response in the brain
➤ blood vessels dilate to decrease blood pressure (but blood pressure is not actually high)
➤ blood pressure drop which stops blood flow to brain
I have been training in Krav Maga (military combat fighting art) for over 7 years. When training keep in mind that your partner can pass out before they have a chance to tap. This rarely, if ever, happens because we train safe. If it does, support your partner until they are safely on the mat. Consciousness will return within 10 seconds. Train safe.
