Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland. Autoimmune diseases occur when the body's immune system lauches an attack on one of its own tissues.
Hashimoto's typically presents with hypo-thyroid (low functioning thyroid) symptoms:
weight gain
fatigue
feeling cold
joint pain
constipation
dry, brittle, or thinning hair
slow heart rate
depressed feelings
puffy eyes or face
fibromyalgia like symptoms
Blood tests can confirm diagnosis with high anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies. Treatment should include thyroid support in addition to immune regulation.
