The Wonderful Pancreas

The pancreas is unique in that it is both an endocrine and exocrine organ. The endocrine function refers to its hormone producing function.
Pancreatic Hormones:
insulin
glucagon
somatostatin
pancreatic polypeptide
Exocrine glands are glands that produce and secrete substances onto an epithelial surface by way of a duct. The pancreas produces enzymes that break down carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. These enzymes are released after the pyloric sphincter into the duodenum and continue digestion into the intestines.
Dysregulation of the pancreas is associated with blood sugar disorders as well as digestive disorders.
